Clarifying Dreams & Visions

At last week's C3 Conference, Dr. Sam Chand likened leadership to changing a fan belt on your car while driving down the highway.

Just for the record, he's right.

God is in the midst of changing some fan belts in me, in our family, and in Lake Hills Church--all while we continue screaming down the highway. It is an incredibly fun, somewhat scary, hugely faith-building time. It's a time of praying, dreaming, seeking counsel, praying, planning, and praying.

I don't know exactly what the next set of fan belts looks like yet, but I know they are bigger and able to sustain higher speeds, hotter temperatures, and greater loads. These dreams and visions that God is leading us into demand change. But, they are clarifying who we are, what we do, and who God wants to be a part of them.

Buckle up.

  1. I think this is also very appropriate for building on another message you have shared recently, letting Christ be in the driver's seat (in keeping with the car metaphor). When you can relinquish control and stop white-knuckling the steering wheel of life, faith in Christ can help reduce the stress of leadership.

As a father and in my professional experience, leadership can be a very stressful position to be in. Constantly worrying if the decisions I make are the right ones. My experience and knowledge (and in most cases my humility) help me provide leadership and guidance. But, knowing that my decisions are supported by my faith in Christ and guided by His principles helps reduce the stress of being leader. There is reassurance in knowing that even if the decision ends up with an undesired or unexpected outcome, I know that it was made with a clear mind and clear heart to do my best in His image.

  3. The older I get the more I am convinced leadership is mostly about showing up and trusting God. It seems that having a continuous faith in God and trusting him to help you with the fan belts is about all the vision one needs.
